Dronfield Musical Theatre Group brought to the local stage a musical based on the striking women of the Ford Plant in Dagenham.
The famous industrial action, over equal pay, took place 50 years ago in 2018. The critically acclaimed "Made in Dagenham" play was be performed at Dronfield Civic Hall from 10th-13th October.
Directing the show was Andrew Hibbert, who performed the role of Mr Hopkins in the Sheffield Lyceum production of the same show in 2016.
Andy said "It seemed fitting to be able to stage this truly British musical not only exactly 50 years since the events on which it is based, but also in the year that marks the centenary of women being given the vote. I thought it was an incredible story when I performed it, and instantly fell in love with it. It tells the story of the battle women had, beautifully, through song."
Sophie Robinson played the lead role of Rita O'Grady. Having performed from a young age, Sophie won a scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music and then later took her acting skills to the country’s capital where she did a lot of professional performing. After moving back to Sheffield with her family, she heard that DMTG were performing Made in Dagenham, and joined the group immediately.
